On May 6<\/strong>, older adults, care professionals, researchers, and institutional representatives gathered at the 1st Forum of the Barcelona Aging & Longevity Lab (BALL<\/a>)<\/strong> to share ideas, challenges, and solutions related to active and dignified ageing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The event, held at the Auditorium of the Vall d\u2019Hebron Research Institute (VHIR<\/a>)<\/strong>, positioned older people as true protagonists<\/strong>, giving them a space to share their experiences and visions for the future.<\/p>\n

A Space to Share Challenges and Opportunities<\/h2>\n

The opening session featured leading voices<\/strong> such as Dr. Anna Santamaria<\/strong>, Director of Internal Strategy at VHIR, who highlighted the need for more open, participatory science<\/strong> closely connected to the realities of older people. She emphasised the centre\u2019s commitment to creating inclusive research spaces<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Next, Dr. Marco Inzitari<\/strong>, CEO of Parc Sanitari Pere Virgili, delivered a powerful message that set the tone for the day: an optimistic, courageous, and creative perspective<\/strong> on ageing as an opportunity for innovation, collaboration<\/strong>, and social transformation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Assumpta Escarp<\/strong>, former MP and spokesperson for Health in the Catalan Parliament, reminded the audience that longevity must be a central pillar<\/strong> in political, economic, and scientific agendas. She stressed the need to empower older adults<\/strong>, acknowledge their rights, and guarantee access to housing<\/strong> as a foundation of dignity.<\/p>\n

Carlota Zabaco<\/strong>, BALL\u2019s Executive Coordinator, opened the event by welcoming attendees and reinforcing the importance of building this space collectively<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Rethinking Housing for Older Adults: A Round Table to Broaden Perspectives<\/h2>\n

As part of the Forum, the round table titled \u201cThe Future of Senior Housing: Options and Challenges\u201d<\/strong> sparked a rich conversation on how to adapt housing models<\/strong> to the preferences and needs of older people.<\/p>\n

Moderated by Anna Fornt<\/strong>, General Director of Grup Efeb\u00e9, the session focused on key questions for the sector:
Where do we want to age? How do we want to do it? And what role does housing play in promoting autonomy and well-being?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Three distinct voices contributed complementary insights:<\/p>\n
