Retirement Homes Renovation of the Nursing Area at Ramón Berenguer Senior Residence

Santa Coloma de Gramenet | 2024

Type of Intervention: Renovation

Surface Area: 30m²

Duration: 1.5 months

Recognizing the need to improve the accessibility and efficiency of its spaces, Santa Coloma Residence entrusted Efebé with the complete renovation of its nursing area. The goal was to create a more open, functional and welcoming environment that better meets the needs of both the residents and the professionals working there.

The renovation focused on the overhaul of 30m² in the nursing area and the adjacent reception area. The aim was to open up the space, improve visibility and accessibility for staff, and create a modern work area adapted for residents with reduced mobility.

I WANT A RENOVATION LIKE THIS

Efebé’s team completely transformed the space—keeping functionality, comfort and efficiency as top priorities.

  • Space Reconfiguration: The wall separating the washroom and the sink room was demolished to create a larger room, removing the toilet and using the existing vinyl covering to conceal marks from the old division. This allowed for a more spacious and functional area, better suited to the needs of the nursing staff.
  • Custom-Made Reception Desk: A custom melamine reception desk was designed and installed, featuring oak finishes to add warmth to the space, combined with white accents to harmonize with the color palette of each floor. The desk was adapted to be wheelchair accessible, with rounded corners to ensure safety.
  • Improved Visibility and Accessibility: The new configuration allows staff to have a full view of the space, enhancing safety and efficiency during daily tasks. Additionally, a fixed glass partition with translucent vinyl was installed to visually close off the former washroom entrance, maintaining privacy while allowing natural light in.
  • Facilities Upgrade: Facilities such as the radiator and thermostats were relocated to fit the new layout. New data points were added to ensure efficient technological connectivity throughout the nursing area.
  • Ceiling and Flooring Adaptation: The false ceiling was repaired and adapted, with necessary tiles replaced to ensure seamless integration between different ceiling types. The floor was leveled with a special paste and new adhesive vinyl flooring, similar to that in the existing open area, was installed to guarantee a smooth and homogeneous transition between spaces.
  • New Furniture and Storage: Archive-style storage cabinets were installed on all floors, standardizing the furniture throughout the building. A swing door was also installed to keep the workspace visually closed off from users with higher dependency, while remaining open and accessible to staff.
