Type of intervention: space adaptation
Dimensions: 93 m²
Duration: 2 months
La Salle School in Santa Coloma de Farners reached out to us after seeing our website and learning about projects we had completed at other La Salle schools. They presented us with an inspiring challenge: to transform a 93 m² unused space—previously serving as a storage room—into an innovative, cross-cutting, and vibrant classroom accessible to all students at the school.
The main goal was clear: to revitalize this space into a creative and functional hub for students of all ages. A place to foster educational innovation and encourage intergenerational collaboration through diverse projects, playful activities, and educational dynamics tailored to both young and older students.
Breathe new life into an unused area of the school.
Create a versatile, bright, and welcoming educational environment.
Promote cross-age use of the space.
Incorporate elements that stimulate creativity and innovation.
Commit to sustainable and comfortable materials.
To achieve this, we designed a proposal focused on warmth, functionality, and sustainability. The first step was to replace the original dark and cold terrazzo flooring with a new, much lighter and brighter natural linoleum floor. This flooring is applied in rolls with heat-sealed joints, providing visual continuity and a clean, inviting aesthetic.
We also addressed the ceiling to enhance acoustic comfort and reinforce the overall aesthetic of the classroom with absorbent treatments and touches of color. The furnishings were designed with the diverse age range of students in mind: tables, chairs, and furniture of varying heights were distributed to accommodate the needs of both younger and older students, and various zones were created within the classroom to support different types of activities.
Additionally, the biotechnology company TECNIC, closely linked to the school, collaborated on the project by providing resources and expertise. Thanks to their involvement, the FluAp classroom incorporates elements that allow students to experiment with biotechnology in a simple and educational way, opening the door to new forms of scientific learning from an early age.
The FluAp classroom has become a transformative space within the school. Students now find an inspiring and versatile environment to explore, create, and collaborate. A space for enjoyable reading, scientific experimentation, and collective growth. A classroom that, with just 93 m², embodies a model of open, creative, and innovative education.
The FluAp Classroom has evolved from an unused area into a key component of La Salle Santa Coloma de Farners’ educational project. Its versatility and adaptability to different ages and methodologies have opened new pedagogical possibilities, fostering creativity, collaboration, and meaningful learning. This transformation would not have been possible without the involvement of the entire educational community and the collaboration of the biotechnology company TECNIC, located near the school and personally connected to it, which has enabled the integration of biotechnology into the daily life of the classroom in a practical, inspiring, and locally connected manner.
