The stairwell above the ground-floor classroom lobby is a constant thoroughfare throughout the school day. We needed a solution that would:

The intervention consists of horizontal metal tensioning cables from which acoustic cylinders measuring 230 mm in diameter and 600 mm in height are suspended. These elements have been arranged at two different heights within the stairwell, creating a three-dimensional composition that, besides bringing lightness and dynamism to the space, helps absorb sound and reduce reverberation.

The intervention reduces the noise generated during peak activity times, improving acoustic comfort in both common areas and nearby classrooms. The result is a calmer, more pleasant environment that supports concentration and the wellbeing of the entire school community.

Because good architecture doesn’t just transform how spaces look, but also how they’re experienced. Designing quieter, more comfortable spaces is also a way of improving the learning experience.
